LATINO DEMOCRATIC CLUB CONDEMNS RACIST VANDALISM OF SILVER SPRING CHURCH
Silver Spring, Md. – Following reports of vandalism of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Silver Spring, Mayra Bayonet, President of the Latino Democratic Club of Montgomery County, released the following statement:
“We are at a loss for words upon waking to find a racist message at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, a welcoming haven for many immigrants. Since Tuesday’s election, other jurisdictions across the country have also seen similar acts of vandalism, by racists who have been empowered by the improbable and alarming election of a demagogue to the presidency.
“Based in the diverse and inclusive Montgomery County, the Latino Democratic Club will continue to advocate on behalf of Latinos, immigrants, and all who proudly call Montgomery County home. In recent days, many have felt grief, fear, and anger as a result of the presidential election. But in spite of who will sit in the Oval Office come January of 2017, we will not be silenced. La lucha sigue.”
The Latino Democratic Club of Montgomery County is a community-centered and mission-driven club, promoting and advancing the civic and political engagement of the Democratic Latino community in Montgomery County.
